We <br /> work with corporate sponsors and local donors to provide opportunities for the matches to <br /> attend sporting events, movies, museums, field days, and many other activities. <br /> d) Agency's Experience with Similar Programs as the Funding Request <br /> After more than 100 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America remains true to its founders' <br /> vision of bringing caring role models into the lives of children. We are the oldest and most <br /> respected mentoring agency in the country. With that, our core program — Community and <br /> School-Based Mentoring — is the cornerstone of our agency. <br /> We have the hard data to prove that our mentoring helps children increase self-esteem, <br /> overcome adversity, improve school behavior and academic performance, and avoid risky <br /> behaviors, like drug use and truancy. National research shows that after 18 months of <br /> spending time with their Bigs, Littles, when compared to those children not in our programs, <br /> were: 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs; 27% less likely to begin using alcohol; <br /> 33% less likely to hit someone; and 52% less likely to skip school. <br /> Since we offer our services free of charge to parents and their children, we must fundraise <br /> to cover all program costs. Throughout our 17-year history, BBBST has received consistent <br /> support from a number of government entities, foundations, corporations, and individuals to <br /> pay for these program costs.
