With the recent passage of the Orange <br /> County Civil Rights Ordinance and its subsequent adoption by <br /> the municipalities, the importance of selecting a name that <br /> more accurately reflects the dual nature of the department <br /> has grown. After extensive discussion on both Commissions , <br /> the vast majority of members from both Commissions have <br /> proposed that the department be renamed the Department for <br /> Human Rights and Relations . The Commission for Women and the <br /> Human Relations Commission would each retain their own name <br /> as commissions . <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S) : The Manager recommends that the Board <br /> approve this proposal . <br />
