2 <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />PROCLAMATION OF RECOGNITION ON <br />UNC WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAM WINNING THE <br />2006 NCAA SOCCER NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP <br />WHEREAS, on December 3, 2006, the University of North Carolina women's soccer team <br />captured the NCAA Women's Soccer National Championship; and, <br />WHEREAS, under the guidance of Head Coach Anson Dorrance, UNC earned its 18th NCAA <br />title, and the team's 19th overall since 1981; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Tar Heels completed the season with 27 straight wins to finrsh with a 27-1-0 <br />record; and, <br />WHEREAS, with this 2006 victory in a time when collegiate soccer has reached parity, UNC <br />women's soccer has returned to the forefront of the sport; and, <br />WHEREAS, through hard work, dedication, teamwork, and commitment, the Tar Heels have <br />brought honor upon themselves, the University of North Carolina, Orange County <br />and the State of North Carolina; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />expresses its sincere appreciation and recognition to the University of North <br />Carolina women's soccer team for its outstanding victory and its inspiration to the <br />youth across the Nation through athletic leadership and teamwork. <br />This the 24th day. of April 2007. <br />Moses Carey, Jr., Chair <br />Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />Donna Baker, Clerk to the Board <br />
