1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. IY <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: November 15, 1994 <br /> SUBJECT Carrboro Branch Library <br /> DEPARTMENT Library PUBLIC HEARING YES NO X <br /> ATTACHMENT(S) INFORMATION CONTACT <br /> Contract Brenda Stephens, ext. 2528 <br /> TELEPHONE NUMBER <br /> Hillsborough 732-8181 <br /> Chapel Hill 968-4501 <br /> Mebane 227-2031 <br /> Durham 688-7331 <br /> PURPOSE: To enter into an agreement with Chapel Hill- <br /> Carrboro Schools in order to provide a public library at the <br /> Charles and Lucile McDougle Middle School. <br /> BACKGROUND: The Orange County Public Library, the Friends of <br /> the Carrboro Branch Library and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro <br /> Schools have been working towards forming a branch library in <br /> southern Orange County. <br /> Efforts date to as early as 1983 regarding this project. <br /> First seen as a direct and single arm of the Orange County <br /> Public Library where efforts were singly being offered to set <br /> up service, has through the years changed to include joint <br /> efforts and prepare to combine resources for better use of <br /> community space within public schools. <br /> Investigations in 1993-1994 and the construction of McDougle <br /> Middle School campus lead library administrators, Friends and <br /> school advocates to the sharing of their community resources <br /> and placement of the branch library within the McDougle <br /> Middle School . <br /> RECOMMENDATION: The Manager recommends that the Board <br /> approve the contract and authorize the chair to sign. <br />
