In 2009, Orange <br /> County stopped providing outside agency funds to our organization. It is our understanding <br /> that this decision was made because the county awards Volunteers for Youth a 30% match for <br /> the funds received from the state of North Carolina to run the community service and teen <br /> court programs. As necessary as these funds are for significant services, they don't provide <br /> support to our mentoring program. Mentoring is a service that is repeatedly listed by parents <br /> and youth-serving professionals as a high need in Orange County, particularly for children in <br /> the Orange County school system where there are few mentoring alternatives.
