ORANGE COUNTY RECREATION AND PARKS <br /> IMPLICATIONS OF PROPOSED BUDGET CUTS -- FY 88/89 <br /> Presentation to Recreation and Parks Advisory Council <br /> June 7, 1988 <br /> Mary Anne Black, Director <br /> In response to your request, the following comments are <br /> offered concerning the implications of the proposed budget <br /> cuts for the up-coming fiscal year (FY 88/89) . <br /> In FY 87/88, Orange County made several commitments to <br /> programs and facilities via action by the Board of County <br /> Commissioners. . to brief, incomplete listing is attached. ) <br /> The Orange County Recreation and Parks Department has carried <br /> out these directives in a professional manner, adhering to <br /> county policy, and assuring safe program and park <br /> opportunities throughout FY 87/88. With the proposed budget <br /> level as recommended in the operating accounts, adjustments <br /> to program delivery must occur. These decisions are not easy <br /> to make and must be made with consistent logic without <br /> compromise to professional judgement. This department prides <br /> itself on being a leader in our community, the state, and <br /> most recently, the nation. Staff commitment to the task at <br /> hand is unparalleled, with staff giving far above and beyond <br /> reasonable levels of expectation. <br /> With new obligations/commitments accepted, yet cuts in budget <br /> proposed, the following cuts will be initiated, effective <br /> July 1, 1988. Clear needs have been identified for all these <br /> programs, but adjustments must be made in order to honor our <br /> commitments to the outlined programs/facilities listed above. <br /> Cuts will include: <br /> 1. September Road Race $ 1, 365 <br /> 125 participants <br /> ' Cooperative program with Chapel Hill R & P <br /> 2. Men's Adult Basketball League . . $ 2,255 • <br /> ISO participants <br /> 3. Adult Oil Painting Classes $ 2, 160 <br /> 100 participants (4 classes per year) <br /> 4. Community Youth Theater Subsidy $ 1,000 <br /> Funded by several organizations <br /> Orange County has funded at this level <br /> for a number of years. <br /> 5. Adult Man's Softball $ 2,750 <br /> 10 teams -- 185 participants <br /> - —y- <br />
