• <br /> • <br /> 056 <br /> GOAL: <br /> To reduce the risks of HIV infection and transmission among <br /> • <br /> black youths (ages 13-20) , through a community based <br /> education program that will employ existing local minority <br /> networks and community organizations. <br /> Time Frame: Preparation Phase (Months 1-3) <br /> OBJECTIVES: (The program strategies are listed after each <br /> objective. ) <br /> • 1. To measure current knowledge and attitudes among black <br /> youths and opinion setters in the black communities of Orange <br /> County about AIDS and HIV transmission and prevention. <br /> . To determine and assess barriers to AIDS education in <br /> the black community and develop approaches to reduce <br /> barriers. <br /> 3. Develop an evaluation of the program that will assess the <br /> ongoing program and measure the program' s impact. <br /> Activities: <br /> A. Hire a project coordinator who has a working <br /> knowledge of the black communities in Orange County <br /> and experience in community-based programs. <br /> B. Develop an assessment tool which determines the <br /> current knowledge of and attitudes about AIDS, HIV, <br /> • and high risk behaviors in the minority communities. <br /> • C. Develop an evaluation that measures the training, <br /> education materials, effect of community impact/ <br /> 4. To establish a minorities AIDS advisory council. <br /> Activities: <br /> A. Recruit from churches and other minority community- <br /> based organizations an advisory board far the purpose <br /> of: • <br /> 1) Assisting in the collection of data from the <br /> assessment questionnaire. (These members will <br /> provide entree into the minority community) ; <br /> 2) Reviewing education material ; <br /> 3) Advising on program implementation in the black <br /> communities; and <br /> 4) Facilitating access to community volunteers that <br /> would deliver programs. <br /> • <br /> Elsommullm, <br />
