This does not include a <br /> half-page, single-spaced typed abstract which should <br /> summarize the proposed project and which must be submitted <br /> with the proposal . Neither does this include appendices <br /> which may be used to provide supporting documentation such as <br /> letters of support and collaboration and examples of previous <br /> efforts. The body of the proposal should include the <br /> following sections : <br /> 1 . History of the agency' s AIDS education efforts. If the <br /> agency has not previously engaged in AIDS prevention efforts , <br /> what health education/disease prevention activities has it <br /> engaged in that would demonstrate the capability to conduct a <br /> community-based AIDS education project (e.g. , efforts to <br /> reduce drug use or teen pregnancy)? What kind of activities <br /> has it implemented (strategies, target audiences , etc. ) ? <br /> With what success? If the the agency has been conducting <br /> AIDS prevention activities , for how long? <br /> 2 . Specific problem or target group. Which aspect of the <br /> AIDS problem will this project address? Who will the project <br /> attempt to reach? <br /> 3. Goal(s) and objectives. What will the project attempt to. <br /> accomplish? Problems and goals are closely related. The <br /> former states the current state of affairs , the latter the <br /> intended future state. ' Goals and objectives are also closely <br /> related. Goals are general statements that express the end <br /> towards which efforts are directed. Objectives describe <br /> specific , measurable outcomes. Objectives should relate <br /> clearly to the attainment of the overall goal(s) of the <br /> project and should be measurable. <br /> Brief .examples for Sections and 3: <br /> Problem: AIDS among Black IV drug users. <br /> Target group: Black IV drug users not in treatment . <br /> Goal : To reduce the incidence of HIV infection .among Black <br /> IV drug users not in treatment who reside in Springfield <br /> County . <br /> • <br /> Objectives: <br /> a. By Sept . 1988, the Blacks Together Project will have <br /> established an outreach program for street IV drug users <br /> in Springfield County. <br /> b. By February 1989, the program will have made contact <br /> with 150 IV drug users in "shooting galleries" and other <br /> street settings , provided them with discount vouchers for <br /> enrollment in the county' s drug treatment program and <br /> 'given them guidelines for reducing their risk of <br /> contracting or transmitting HIV. <br /> • <br /> ^ <br />
