Fikes <br /> Letter to NRCD - June 6, 1988 <br /> Letter from NRCD - June 8, 1988 <br /> Funding Approval Form Amendment <br /> TELEPHONE NUMBER- <br /> Hillsborough - 732-8181 <br /> Chapel Hill - 968-4501 <br /> Mebane - 227-2031 <br /> Durham - 688-7331 <br /> PURPOSE: To approve the execution of the Emergency Shelter Funding <br /> Approval Form Amendment. <br /> BACKGROUND: On December 10, 1987, Orange County was awarded $13, 648 in <br /> Emergency Shelter Grant funds to be used for the IFC Home- <br /> less Shelter in Chapel Hill . Grant regulations required <br /> all monies for shelter operations and services ($7,097.00) <br /> be expended by June 8, 1988. Additionally, the State re- <br /> quired that all monies to be spent for rehabilitation <br /> ($6,551 ) be obligated by June 8, 1988 and expended by <br /> December 5, 1988. <br /> All funds for shelter operations and services were expend- <br /> ed by the InterFaith Council prior to the June 8th deadline. <br /> However, on June 6, 1988, County staff was notified by Inter- <br /> Faith Council that they would be unable to obligate the re- <br /> habilitation funds due to difficulty in receiving bids from <br /> qualified licensed asbestos contractors to remove asbestos <br /> materials from the Old Police Building. <br /> At this time, County staff formally requested that NRCD <br /> extend the deadline for obligation of rehabilitation funds to <br /> June 30, 1988 to allow InterFaith more time for bid <br /> solicitation and subsequent contract award. (Letter <br /> attached) . This request was granted by NRCD and requires <br /> that an amended Funding Approval Form be executed to make <br /> this extension effective. (See attached) <br /> County staff will continue to work with the InterFaith <br /> Council to ensure that the new deadline is met . The Funding <br /> Approval Form has been forwarded to the appropriate County <br /> officials for review. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S) : <br /> Approve the execution of the amended Funding Approval Form <br /> and authorize the Chair to sign on behalf of the Board. <br />
