"Student Government Day" Itinerary <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Sharron Hinton, 245-2300 <br />PURPOSE: To proclaim the week of April 22-28, 2007 as Orange County Government Week <br />and endorse the "Student Government Day" activities. <br />BACKGROUND: The National Association of Counties and the North Carolina Association of <br />County Commissioners encourage local governments to celebrate County Government Week in <br />an effort to educate citizens about county government. A proclamation to acknowledge the <br />week of April 22 -28, 2007 as Orange County Government Week is provided as Attachment I. <br />The theme for County Government Week is "Protecting the Environment" <br />This year marks the. seventeenth year that Orange County has celebrated County Government <br />Week by sponsoring a program which serves to educate our youth. The "Student Government <br />Day" activity is scheduled for Wednesday, April 25, 2007 and will involve students from the <br />County's four high schools. <br />To provide the students with a broader perspective of County services this year, staff plans to <br />tour several facilities (both established and planned) and engage the group .collectively with <br />several department heads. An itinerary of the day is included as Attachment II. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: None <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board adopt the proclamation, <br />authorize the Chair to sign; and endorse the planned event. <br />
