ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: April 10, 2007 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. ~ ~q <br />SUBJECT: Proclamation Recognizing UNC Women's Soccer 2006 NCAA Championship <br />DEPARTMENT: BOCC <br />PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />Proclamation <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Donna Baker, Clerk to the <br />Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />(919) 245-2130 <br />PURPOSE: To consider a proclamation recognizing the UNC women's soccer team for winning <br />the 2006 NCAA Women's National Soccer Championship. <br />BACKGROUND: On December 3, 2006, the University of North Carolina women's soccer team <br />captured the NCAA National Championship. <br />The Tar Heels completed the season with 27 straight wins to finish with a 27-1-0 record. Under <br />the guidance of Head Coach Anson Dorrance, UNC earned its 18t" NCAA title, and the team's <br />19t" overall since 1981. <br />Women's soccer at UNC has an unparalleled stretch of domination with no comparison at the <br />collegiate or pro level, in any sport. <br />The legend carries on as UNC women's soccer continues to inspire youth across the nation <br />through their athletic leadership and teamwork. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: None <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the attached <br />proclamation recognizing the UNC Women's Soccer Team and authorize the Chair to sign. <br />
