In this manner, all parties, local governments and the school
districts can employ 'smart growth' locational and infrastructure criteria to proactively site future
schools.
A draft of the letter from the board chairs to the mayors is attached and will be forthcoming
upon pon approval by the County Board and the two School Boards. The Chapel Hill Carrboro
Schools Board of Education has already reviewed the letter and authorized the Board Chair to
proceed. The County Board of Commissioners will review the letter at the Board's March 27,
2007 regular meeting. And the Orange County Schools Board of Education will be reviewing
the letter in the near future.
Attachment 4 — Draft Letter from BOCC Chair and School Board Chairs to Mayors
Regarding School Site Collaboration
FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no direct financial impact associated with discussion of these
topics. There are no action items requiring formal Board decisions.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Boards discuss the topics listed
and provide appropriate direction to the respective staffs.
