Truitt
RE: Appointee for OPC Area Board
DATE: February 26, 2007
I am writing to support the appointment of Lynn Ikenberry, M.D., PhD., to the Area Board of Orange
Person Chatham Area Program.
Dr. Ikenberry received an undergraduate degree from Duke University in 1957. In 1963, he received
a PhD in physical chemistry from the University of Chicago. He received his medical training at the
University of North Carolina and completed a residency in Psychiatry there in 1977.
Since 1977 Dr. Ikenberry has been in private practice in Psychiatry in Chapel Hill. He holds an
active North Carolina medical license and is in good standing with the North Carolina Medical Board.
He has volunteered in the community with several organizations. For three years, Dr. Ikenberry
served on the board of Threshold, a psychosocial rehabilitation program in Durham. He was a
.member of the board of the Chapel Hill Tennis Club for six years and served as president for three
years.
Dr. Ikenberry's wife, Carolyn, is a social worker who recently retired from OPC after serving as
director of the Child and Family Services unit for several years.
Dr. Ikenberry is well-qualified to serve on OPC's Area Board, and I would strongly support his
appointment. Thank you for your attention to this information-and please do not hesitate to call my
office should you. need anything further.
Managing mental fiealth, developmental disabilities and substance abuse services in
Orange, Person and Chaffiam Counties
