':::::: ��;>::�Wka:.::��l:h?Rt.M;�::>;'ft �::::::�. :::: R:;::;:3;:Si:t;!:::•>::•:;;:s'>:<as: <br /> BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE <br /> In December 1990 the Board of County Commissioners began a <br /> process to form a county-wide visitor bureau to specifically <br /> address Challenge 9 of the Orange County Economic Development <br /> Strategic Plan adopted March 8, 1989. In the 1991 session, the <br /> North Carolina General Assembly ratified Senate Bill 622 <br /> authorizing Orange County to levy an occupancy tax. A 1% <br /> occupancy tax began on September 1, 1991. An Interim Board of <br /> Directors for the new bureau was formed in September 1991 and <br /> began to develop goals, priorities, and .an administrative <br /> structure. <br /> RESOURCE REQUIREMENTS <br /> The Visitor Bureau staff is currently conducting an assessment of <br /> next steps with assistance from the Economic Development <br /> Commission. If the non-profit status is determined to be the <br /> best alternative, County Attorney effort will be involved. <br />
