Disposal (coned)
The estimated number of pounds per county per year is based on volumes received at
recent HHW collection programs held in the cities of Durham, Raleigh and Winston-
Salem (see Recent Program History Chart) and was calculated as follows:
#f of Pounds of Waste received per category from cities combined divided by:
Total Population of the Cities combined
multiplied by: The population of each county
For example:
Based on the following 1991 population figures:
City of Durham - 100,831 Durham County - 152,785
Raleigh - 149,771 Orange County - 77,055
Winston-Salem - 131,885 Chatham County - 33,415
Wake County - 300,883
For the Incineraton-Lab Pack Category:
1,120 lbs. + 1.695 lbs. + 1,840 lbs. = .012
100,831 + 149,771 + 131,885
The estimated number of pounds per county per year would be:
Durham County 152,785 x .012 = 1,833 lbs.
Orange County 77,055 x .012 = 925 lbs.
Chatham County 33,415 x .012 = 401 lbs.
Wake County 300,883 x .012 = 3,610 lbs.
By using this method the average participation rates are automatically accounted for and
the estimated number of pounds per category per year for each county is based on actual
volumes received at collection programs from comparable North Carolina areas.
Laidlaw Environmental Services
22
