Orange County. 2
A "registry" of nonprofits serving families and children in Orange County
(Attachment II) was produced by a UNC School of Social Work intern placed
at the Chapel Hill Chamber of Commerce during the 1993-94 academic year.
This list identifies the agencies which may have a potential impact on the
youth and families of Orange County.
The action plan for implementation should establish a coordinated and
empowered function that will provide the coordination of youth and family
services.
One of the challenges of this effort will be to define the areas of
collaboration and coordination that prevent timely intervention. This
effort should empower the coordination and collaboration function to
ensure that the best intervention is pursued and commitment is obtained to
enhance the services to youth and their families.
To facilitate this process, we propose to use the resources of two
graduate interns, a Master of Public Administration (MPA) and a Master of
Social Work (MSW) , to work cooperatively to develop an action plan. The
MPA intern will concentrate on the automation component of the
recommendations; while the MSW intern will focus on the networking and
enhancement of services between public and private agencies via surveys
and focus groups.
The MPA intern is to be paid from the Manager's operating budget; and the
salary for the MSW intern will be paid from the $30, 000 available in the
non-departmental funds. These interns will be staffed in the Manager's
Office and work under the supervision of Sharron- Siler, Management
Analyst, who is responsible for providing assistance to special
populations in the County.
RECOMMENDATION(S) : The Manager recommends that the Board receive this
report as information.
