" <br /> BACKGROUND: October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. <br /> The observance is held annually by direction of Congress to help eliminate <br /> bias in the workplace and encourage employment of the skills and talents <br /> of people with disabilities. Governor Hunt has proclaimed the month of <br /> October in North Carolina as NDEAM for our community. New Census figures <br /> reveal that there are 49 million people with disabilities in America and <br /> two-thirds of them are eligible to work, but unable to find employment. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S) : Proclaim October as "National Disability Employment <br /> Awareness Month" and authorize the Chair to sign on behalf of the Board. <br />
