This would provide a foundation for non-violent <br /> resolution of problems as young people developed relationships and <br /> families of their own. One of the symposium recommendations, <br /> addressed to the Chapel Hill/Carrboro City School Board and the <br /> Orange County School Board, was "Include conflict resolutions skills <br /> as part of the curriculum from kindergarten through Grade 12 . " <br /> The Orange County Violence Reduction and Conflict Resolution <br /> Task Force was initiated by the Commission for Women in the summer <br /> of 1991 as a way to address the concerns raised in the Symposium <br /> about preventing family violence, and concern about the promotion of <br /> violence prevention among young people in general . <br /> The primary effort of the Task Force was conducting a needs <br /> assessment by surveying administrators, teachers and staff at all <br /> Orange County public schools, private schools, day care centers, <br /> Head Start programs, and key youth services agencies. The purpose <br /> of the study was to assess the frequency and seriousness of <br /> different issues of conflict and violence as these are perceived by <br />
