The Community Child <br /> Protection team is comprised of professionals and citizens who <br /> coordinate the protective services system in Orange County and <br /> provide recommendations for improvement, and report annually to <br /> the county commissioners. <br /> Job Opportunity and Basic Skills (JOBS) coordinates services <br /> with Durham Tech, Literacy Council, and schools. These agencies <br /> provide services for the portion of the population seeking to <br /> improve their literacy skills. The JOBS Advisory Board addresses <br /> the needs and tries to eliminate the duplication of services. <br /> In-Home Services provide assistance to the elderly to help <br /> them maintain their own home. Services are coordinated with the <br /> Department on Aging, Home Health Agency, Clerk of Courts Office <br /> ( for guardianships) , and Meals on Wheels for meal provision. <br /> The Camp Scholarship Program is provided with 4-H, both school <br /> systems, The Durham Herald and the Orange County Recreation and <br /> Parks Department. Scholarships to summer camps in the community <br /> are provided to children from low income families. <br /> Other Relationships: DSS coordinates the placement of <br /> children in Sheaffer House with Lutheran Family Services <br /> participates on the admissions and treatment committee at <br /> Sheaffer House. Two-thirds of the residents are referrals from <br /> DSS, and the department participates in the hiring of the <br /> Director for Sheaffer House. The department also has a <br /> representative on the Board for residence selection. <br /> -25- <br />
