Durham Tech co-sponsors creative classes, as well as other <br /> special events and activities, at three of the senior centers and <br /> two community centers. <br /> Orange County Department of Social Services offers <br /> informational programs and coordinates with the Department on <br /> Aging through the Energy Assistance Program, Adult Protective <br /> Services (elder abuse) , and provides other services at the senior <br /> centers. <br /> Volunteers for Youth provides youth to help clean and <br /> maintain the Chapel Hill Senior Center. The staff at the center <br /> supervise the youth who are completing court mandated community <br /> service. <br /> Chapel Hill/Carrboro Schools co-sponsor Senior Coordinated <br /> Curriculum through the Adult Education Program. The school <br /> system also offers space for classes at Phillips Middle School <br /> and Chapel Hill High School. <br /> Additional Programs and Services are coordinated with the <br /> following: UNC School of Nursing - informational programs and <br /> blood pressure checks at the centers; UNC School of Medicine - <br /> monthly health lectures at the Chapel Senior Center; UNC School <br /> of Public Health - interns assisting seniors with various <br /> projects; UNC Speech and Hearing Department - monthly hearing <br /> screening and educational presentations, UNC School of Pharmacy - <br /> co-sponsors the Brown Bag Medicine Program, North State Legal <br /> Services - contracts to provide legal services for low income <br /> senior citizens; and UNC Hospitals co-sponsor two support groups. <br /> -20- <br />
