The amount of said notice was
$1,066.65 based on a property valuation of $75,972.00. Upon re-
-deipt of said tax notice Mr. Heritage promptly contacted our office
requesting us to inquire into the same. Our office then contacted
the tax supervisor for. Orange County. Mr. Laws informed me that
the only corrections their office could make as to errors with re-
gard to property valuation were clerical errors. After having
checked his records, he informed me that there was no clerical
error with regard to the valuation. Having been informed by Mr.
Heritage that the property is currently for sale by Chapel Hill
Realty for $70,000.00, I am puzzled as to why such a high valuation
was attributed to the property. Further, Mr. Heritage never re-
ceived notice this year to indicate the new appraisal value of the
property and unfortunately learned of the most recent valuation upon
receipt of the tax notice.
We feel that a mistake has been made and would greatly appre-
ciate an opportunity to rectify the same. Please inform me of the
necessary steps and channels essential to a review of the current
valuation of said property. I am well aware that the Equalization
Board is the proper channel to challenge such valuation. It is my
understanding that the board adjourned effective June 30, 1981.
Therefore because Mr. Heritage did not receive proper notice so
that an inquiry could have been made, we would greatly appreciate an
opportunity to present evidence to the proper authorities as to the
actual value of the property for the current tax year.
