3747 Huntington Street, N.W.
• hin...on D.C. 20015
June 29, 1981
Orange County Tax Supervisor's Office
208 South Cameron Street
Hillsborough, N.C. 27278
Dear Supervisor:
I have receibed your notification of the appraisal of my property for 1981
tax assessment, as follows:
TLW MAP BLOCK PARCEL -DESCRIPTION
6 43 i.7 LLOYD
Unfortunately, because I have been living in Washington and this year I am
on assignment from the federal government to Boston, I cannot ccme in to speak
with you personally about the 1981 valuation.
Your notification lists it at $39,875. Last year it was $8,500.* I have
not been to the property for over a year, so perhaps there have been great
improvements in the area. However, to the best of my IcloWledge,
1) the property cannot be reached except for a bulldozed dirt road, which
is impassable during heavy rains or snows
2) the property has little of value on it, inasmuch as there were timber rights
attached and the previous owner had all the good trees cut
3) the only structure on it is an old tobacco barn, which is small and when I
last saw it not in too good shape
4) the property has no special natural features which make it especially
valuable or desirable
5) the power company has right-of-way rights through it, so its ostensible
value is reduced considerably in terms of what can be done with it.
According ter-your proposed valuation, the property is worth about $1595 per acre.
Considering the above information, which you probably didn't have when you made the
evaluation, I think you'd agree that that particular property isn't worth anywhere
near that much.
With the additional information about the property to consider, I'd appreciate
it if you would reconsider the evaluation and make a new appraisal.
Thanks for your cooperation,
Sincerely,
Robert L, Hilliard
*Has all real property in that area gone up 650%?
