ORANGE COUNTY
ENVIRONMENT AND RESOURCE CONSERVATION DEPARTMENT
Q
To: Eddie Kirk, Orange County Planner
From: Rich Shaw, Land Conservation Manager
Date: January 18, 2007
Re: Carramore Subdivision Proposal
Thank you for the opportunity to review and comment on the proposed Carramore
Subdivision. The proposal would create 8 lots on 20.658 acres located east of Kerley Road.
All but 0.308 acre of the subject property is located in Durham County.
ERCD comments on subdivisions are generally intended to a) address any concerns with
respect to potential impacts on important natural or cultural resources, and b) identify any
areas that might.be desirable for possible dedication to the County for public recreation/
open space pursuant to Section N -13-7 -b of the Orange County Subdivision Ordinance.
The Preliminary Plat (November 15, 2006) shows that only 0.308 acres is located in Orange
County. The Orange County portion is a narrow strip of land located adjacent to Kerley
Road. The plat shows a 50- foot -wide public right of way that would be constructed through
that narrow strip, from Kerley Road and into the subdivision ( Carramore Lane). The rest of
the Orange County property would be set aside for Open Space -4,699 square feet south of
the entrance road and 4,618 square feet north of the entrance road.
The Orange County portion of the plan appears consistent with the County's
desire to minimize adverse environmental impacts with respect to the protection
of floodplains, wetlands, natural areas and wildlife habitat.
Let me know if you have any questions or would like to discuss these findings.
cc: David Stancil
Environment and Resource Conservation
PO Box 8189 /306 -A Revere Road
Hillsborough, NC 27278
(919) 245 -2590
M
