33C
Aft:
 fw ~ ~,- '
`.. .
AGENDA ATTACHMENT 9
MEMORANDUM
TO: Board of Commissioner's
FROM: Anne Barnes, Chair
DATE: July 27, 1981
RE: Sale of Alcohol to Minors
In a July 14 memorandum from Mayor Joe Nassif, the Mayor reports
that the Chapel Hill Town Council has discussed action which might be
taken to reduce sale of alcohol to minors and consumption of alcohol by
minors, The Council is especially troubled by the possibility of perso-
nal tragedy that exists when minors mix drinking and driving, and would
like to use the resources and influence of the Town to prevent such acci-
dents.
The Mayor plans to contact local vendors of beer and wine, to in-
troduce them to the Council 's concern, and to invite them to an August
meeting to discuss the problem and the importance of their cooperation.
The memorandum encourages the support of the Town of Carrboro, the
Chapel Hill-Carrboro School Board, and the Board of Commissioners,
In subsequent conversations with Mayor Nassif, I agreed to bring
this matter to your attention at the earliest opportunity.
The Board of Commissioners may wish to convey its support of the
Town's effort by resolution. The Board may also wish to initiate a simi-
lar effort for those areas which lie outside the Town's jurisdiction,
` /
