ORIGINAL VERSION <br /> 1 <br /> PROPOSED 081 <br /> WATER AND SEWER POLICY <br /> OF <br /> ORANGE COUNTY. NORTH CAROLINA <br /> (1) Water Supply/Sewage Disposal <br /> The Planning Board recommends that Orange County <br /> take an active role with its municipalities and <br /> surrounding jurisdictions in developing and <br /> managing water supplies and sewage disposal on a <br /> local and regional basis. The Planning Board <br /> further recommends that Orange County meet its <br /> water supply and sewage disposal needs in a manner <br /> consistent with existing agricultural. water <br /> quality critical area. environmental protection and <br /> buffer policies. <br /> These recommendations are based on the following <br /> goals: <br /> (a) Provide clean and safe water supplies avail- <br /> able and adequate to meet future needs of the <br /> residents of Orange County. (LUP) <br /> (b) Identify. develop and manage Orange County' s <br /> water supplies so that available resources are <br /> balanced with existing and projected needs on <br /> a local and regional basis. (LUP) <br /> (2) Delin__at19n/Protec4l9U of Watershs�� <br /> The Planning Board feels that watershed protection <br /> should be given high priority status in the Land <br /> Use Plan update. particularly since Orange County <br /> has historically been in the forefront of watershed <br /> protection. Consistent with this tradition. the <br /> Planning Board recommends that adequate watershed <br /> protection: .- standards be established in unzoned <br /> portions of the County. The delineation and <br /> protection of such watersheds has been partially <br /> addressed in the Land Use Plan and will be further <br /> in the Plan update. However. there is an immediate <br /> need to establish a policy extending watershed <br /> protection standards to watersheds regardless of <br /> zoning classification. <br /> This recommendation is based on and in support of <br /> the following goals: <br /> (a) Designate prime reservoir sites. based on an <br /> evaluation of water resources throughout the <br />
