DIs TRIBuTED <br /> December 2, 1987 <br /> Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> 106 East Margaret Lane <br /> Hillsborough , N.C. 27278 <br /> Dear Members of the Board of Commissioners: <br /> RE: Action Agenda Item #G5 for the December 1 , 1987 <br /> Meeting -- Dawson Road/Sight Distance Problem <br /> This is to acknowledge our thanks and appreciation to the <br /> Orange County Board of Commissioners for approving the <br /> recommendation that the Chair be authorized to correspond with <br /> NCDOT, requesting that the Dawson Road project be scheduled in <br /> the 1988-89 NCDOT budget with funding from either the Unpaved <br /> Road Improvements Fund or the Minor Safety Fund" . <br /> Although we are residents of Dawson Road and were present <br /> as interested observers at the December 1 meeting , we were not <br /> prepared to make a statement at the time; however , two very <br /> important items should have been mentioned or , at least , should <br /> be with The Board ' s file on this agenda item: <br /> ( 1 ) Dawson Road (SR 1955) is only one road over from <br /> Crawford Dairy Road which has been the tragic site of two <br /> fatal car accidents this past year , resulting in the loss <br /> of three loved ones from the community. The NCDOT has installed <br /> a blinking caution light at that intersection, and it is hoped <br /> that it will help prevent another fatality. <br /> (2) Dawson Road (SR 1955) is the home for several families <br /> with school-age children and there are two county school buses <br /> that must enter and exit from this road onto Old Greensboro <br /> Road each school day. The most dangerous time for these buses and <br /> their precious "passengers"E our children] is, of course, early <br /> a.m. when there is heavy work traffic.
