As you <br /> will recall , at our expense, we had S&ME make additional soil test borings <br /> at the location of the bored casing under US 70 along line 1B, where rock <br /> was encountered during the installation. After reviewing the additional <br /> subsurface data from S&ME (see attached) , it is our recommendation that <br /> the County approve Change Order No. 1 , adjusting the cost for the <br /> Contractor to complete the aforementioned installation. <br /> The Change Order has been executed by Hazen and Sawyer and Lanzo <br /> Construction Company. The Contractor has also agreed that it will be at <br /> the discretion of the Engineer and not the sub—contractor as to when the <br /> changeover from soil boring to hand rock excavation will be initiated, as <br /> stipulated in Attachment A. The maximum cost of $12,550 found in <br /> Attachment A is reduced by $2,079.00 for the unit price deduction of the <br /> 18—inch casing pipe not installed due to the rock. This leaves a balance <br /> of $10,471 .00 as indicated in Change Order No. 1 . We feel the probable <br /> cost of the additional work will be less than the $10,471 .00 unless <br /> additional unforeseen rock is encountered with the new procedure, but in <br /> no event will the cost exceed $10,471 .00.
