01
ORANGE COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
Action A enda
ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT Item No.
Meeting Date: NOVEMBER 2, 1987 r
SUBJECT: CHANGE ORDER EFLAND/CHEEKS SANITARY SEWER
DEPARTMENT: COUNTY MANAGER PUBLIC HEARING: Yes x No
ATTACHMENT(S) : INFORMATION CONTACT: MANAGER'S
yes OFFICE,X501
TELEPHONE NUMBER:
Hillsborough - 732-8181
Chapel Hill - 968-4501
Mebane - 227-2031
Durham - 688-7331
PURPOSE: This change order is for the remaining bore under highway 70
W. to complete installation of "line 1B".
The boring under US 70 (1B) has been made to within 35 ' of
completion before encountering rock. The test bores which
were made available to the bidders did not indicate rock
although new test bores by S & ME engineers are on either side
of the sewer center line revealed rock of sufficient hardness
to stop the boring procedure originally employed.
BACKGROUND: In order to complete this leg of the sewer, a new bore must be
accomplished by starting a new bore with a 36" casing so rock
and dirt may be jacked and hand mined to a point of connection
with the eighteen inch casing already installed. As you will
note, there is a fixed price for dirt and still another price
for rock. The total cost not to exceed is $10,471. 00 and we
expect the cost to be something less than this, since the dirt
and rock will be removed on a per unit cost and the enginer
will be allowed to make that determination. There is an
extension time of twenty calendar days added to the end of
Phase II.
RECOMMENDATION(S) : Approve change order in the amount of $10,471. 00 and
extend contract date by 20 calendar days at the end of
Phase II.
