h
121
3
NCDOT changing its recommendation with regards to the left
turn lane was received nine days later.
The entrance plan that accompanied the NCDOT letter to the
Planning Department dated October 5, 1987 has been approved
by NCDOT. It incorporates NCDOT' s current requirements :
1 . One hundred ( 100) foot right turn taper on SR 1718,
2. Increased dedicated right-of-way to forty (40 ) feet
from centerline,
3. A dedicated 10 'x70 ' sight distance triangle at the
intersection, and
4 . A recommended subdivision entrance 30 feet wide.
NCDOT' s approval of the entrance plan is consistent with
their August 25 letter which said that the left turn lane on
Mt. Sinai Road was no longer recommended .
At its October 19 , 1987 meeting, the Planning Board
recommended that the preliminary plan for Piney Mountain be
approved with the removal of condition #4.
RECOMMENDATION: The Administration supports the position of the Planning
Board and recommends that condition #4 be removed from the
approval of the preliminary plan for Piney Mountain Cluster
Subdivision .
