The letter also <br /> notified the applicant of the need to construct right <br /> and left turns on Mt. Sinai Road. <br /> August 25_, 1987: NCDOT notified the Planning Department <br /> that it no longer recommended a left turn lane on Mt. <br /> Sinai Road. It cited lack of a dedicated right of- way <br /> and insufficient road frontage for Piney Mountain sub <br /> division on Mt. Sinai Road as reasons for the change in <br /> recommendation . The following were instead <br /> recommended : <br /> 1 . One hundred ( 100) foot right turn taper on SR <br /> 1718. <br /> 2. Increase dedicated right-of-way to forty ( 40) feet <br /> from centerline for future road expansion . <br /> 3. Increase driveway width to thirty-six (36) feet to <br /> accommodate three (3) twelve ( 12) foot lanes . <br /> October 5 , 1987 : NCDOT notified the Planning Department <br /> that the thirty-six foot wide driveway into Piney <br /> Mountain subdivision was no longer required . The <br /> applicant had submitted a revised subdivision entrance <br /> eliminating the divided driveway. Without the divided <br /> driveway, the thirty six foot width was no longer <br /> needed . <br /> October 5, 1987 : NCDOT notified the project engineer that <br /> construction plans for Phase I of Piney Mountain were <br /> approved with two revisions : <br /> 1 . Increase pipe size at station 3+45+ to thirty (30) <br /> inches. <br /> 2. Provide a dedicated 10 'x70 ' sight distance <br /> triangle at each intersection within the <br /> development. <br /> The original Planning Staff recommendation was based on the <br /> July 16, 1987 NCDOT letter. The Planning Board, at its July <br /> 20 meeting, revised that recommendation by requiring con- <br /> struction of the left turn lane on Mt. Sinai Road as part of <br /> Phase One.
