Since that time,
several members of the community have voiced concern about
the method used for the assignment of numbers. In an effort
to clarify the application of the house numbering system to
Hideaway Estates, information is provided regarding the
procedure.
The four-digit numbers assigned to Hideaway Estates were
determined by scaling 50-foot increments on County tax maps
southward along Old N.C. Highway 86 from its intersection
with U.S. Highway 70 to a point of horizontal alignment with
Hideaway Estates northern tip. The beginning point; i.e. ,
U.S. 70/Old N.C. 86, was used, since the two routes
represent components of the north-south and east-west axes
of the numbering system.
From the northern tip of Hideaway Estates, addresses were
assigned to residences at 50-foot intervals, beginning with
Mr. Gambill at 5214 Hideaway Drive and, with increasing
numbers, to Ms. Horne at 5912 , the southernmost property on
Hideaway Drive. The assignment of numbers on 50-foot
increments permits additional numbers to be present for
assignment in the event that new residences are constructed
in the future. The number which aligns most closely with an
existing residence is assigned to that home.
The system used to assign house numbers permits comparable
numbers to be assigned to roads which run parallel to the
