Ordinance. 17 <br /> At present, crematoria are not permitted by the Zoning Ordinance. <br /> The amendment would make them a permitted use in the I-1, I-2, and 1-3 <br /> (Industrial) zoning districts. The amendment to Article 4.3 would add <br /> crematoria to the Permitted Use Table. The amendment to Article 10.4 <br /> would establish parking requirements for crematoria. <br /> The Planning Staff recommends approval of the proposed amendment. <br /> Planning Board member Sharlene Pilkey asked about the <br /> and Szymik indicated that one space per employee has been proposed. <br /> parking <br /> DOROTHY BANE stated with regards to the parking requirements <br /> that memorial services are usually held at the Church and not at the <br /> Crematoria. She feels the land should be commercial and not industrial. <br /> There has been a 25% increase in the demand for these services and in 25 <br /> years, it is expected to increase another 25%. Crematoria are checked <br /> periodically by the EPA, there is no odor or smoke, and they have very <br /> complicated filters. There are less pollutants than in a funeral home. <br /> Szymik stated that the crematoria does have to meet certain <br /> emission requirements. <br /> THERE WERE NO FURTHER COMMENTS, THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS CLOSED. <br /> Motion was made by Commissioner Hartwell, seconded by <br /> Commissioner Halkiotis to refer this item to the Planning Board with a <br /> recommendation for consideration to be presented to the Board of <br /> Commissioners on October 5, 1987. <br /> VOTE: UNANIMOUS. <br /> b.
