041 <br /> 2 . License and register their dogs and cats in appropriate <br /> and timely manner ( as outlined in the Ordinance) with <br /> Orange County Health Department . <br /> 3 . Comply with the Orange County Animal Control Ordinance <br /> regulations . <br /> 4 . Report to the Orange County Health Department any animal <br /> suspect for rabies and/or any animal bite(s) , provide <br /> pertinent information of the incident and take <br /> appropriate precautionary measures to protect themselves <br /> and others from the animal . <br /> 5 . Report suspected animal cruelty to the Orange County <br /> Health Department . <br /> 6 . Identify and utilize Animal Control Services in Orange <br /> County appropriately. <br /> INTERVENTION STRATEGIES: <br /> The approaches proposed for public education and for <br /> promoting better public relations in Orange County regarding <br /> Animal Control shall include heavy utilization of public <br /> service mass media, dissemination of printed informational <br /> materials, participation in appropriate public information <br /> exhibitions, and provision of educational programs to schools <br /> and community groups on request . Emphasis will be given to <br /> "timely" dissemination of mass media releases/ads and <br /> informational materials to take advantage of "teachable" <br /> opportunities, where the learners (public) may be more <br /> receptive to the messages contained in the communications. <br /> The following specific methods of intervention are proposed <br /> for inclusion in the Orange County Health Department 's Animal <br /> Control Public Education program: <br /> 1 . Periodic , "timely" and seasonal dissemination of press <br /> releases pertaining to animal control , responsible <br /> animal ownership and rabies vaccination/control to area <br /> newspapers and/or agency newsletters (News of Orange <br /> County, Durham Morning Herald, News and Observer, The <br /> Chapel Hill News, Orange-Alamance Enterprise, The Daily <br /> Tar Heel , The Advocate, Agricultural Extension <br /> Homemakers Newsletter , Senior Times, Orange Alive, <br /> etc . ) . <br /> 2. Periodic and seasonal distribution and/or recording of <br /> Public Service Announcements to area radio stations. <br /> (WCHL, WDNC/WDCG, WQDR, WFXC, WRBX, WPTF, WDUR, WSRC, <br /> WUNC, etc. ) . <br /> 3 . Dissemination of PSAs regarding scheduled Rabies <br /> Vaccination Clinics sponsored by the Health Department <br />
