_ _
037
ORANGE COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
Action A ex da
Item No. Li ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT
Meeting Date: MAY 17, 1988
SUBJECT: ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION--PETITION TO SELL LOT
DEPARTMENT: COUNTY MANAGER PUBLIC HEARING: Yes X No
ATTACHMENT(S) : INFORMATION CONTACT: MANAGER'S
OFFICE,X501
BOE ATTORNEY'S CORRESPONDENCE
OTHER PERTINENT INFORMATION (UNDER
SEPARATE COVER)
TELEPHONE NUMBER:
Hillsborough - 732-8181
Chapel Hill - 968-4501
Mebane - 227-2031
Durham - 688-7331
PURPOSE: Proposal to sell lot located on West Union Street by Orange
County Board of Education.
BACKGROUND: Orange County received a letter from Mr. D. Michael Parker,
Attorney for the Orange County Board of Education, stating an
offer to sell a certain lot. This lot is located on the south
side of West Union Street and contains .77 acres. The Orange
County Board of Education is required to first offer to the
Orange County Board of Commissioners any property they might
own and plan to sell.
Assistant County Manager, Bill Laws, examined the lot and
reported that the lot has 77.20 ' frontage and adjoins the
Mebane Chapel Holiness Church. The lot is across the street
from the A. L. Stanback School complex. With the small amount
of frontage, the only use compatible with the school property
would be for a parking lot.
RECOMMENDATION(S) :
That the Board of Commissioners decline the offer to purchase
the . 77 acre lot on West Union Street, and authorize the
Orange County Board of Education to initiate sale proceedings.
