• r - ORANGE COUNTY 034 BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Action Agen a Item No. ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT Meeting Date: April 4, 1988 SUBJECT: Authorizing Submission of the Title III-B & D Application under the Older Americans Act DEPARTMENT: Aging PUBLIC HEARING YES: NO: X ATTACHMENT(S) : INFORMATION CONTACT: Jerry Passrnore NONE TELEPHONE NUMBER- Hillsborough - 732-8181 Chapel Hill - 968-4501 Mebane - 227-2031 Durham - 688-7331 PURPOSE: To consider authorizing submission of the Title III-E & D Older Americans Act (social services/senior center operations) application to Triangle J Council of Governments by the Chair, County Commissioners, effective July 1, 1988 through June 30, 1989 for federal/state funds in the amount of $105, 544. Submission of completed application is due April 12, 1988. County matching funds would not increase over previous years. BACKGROUND: This is a yearly continuation application covering the following services which are a part of the Department on Aging' s current budget : Transportation, Senior Center Operations and Case Management. The application will also include a small amount of special emphasis funds for respite care ($1, 130) and legal service ($1,500). required by the revised Older Americans Act. The Dept. on Aging would continue to emphasize ACCESS SERVICES in order to facilitate service delivery by a multitude of community organizations. These DOA services were ranked as high priority according to COG and local needs assessments. Due to the late receipt of the application, forms and the extensive preparation time, the completed application is not attached to the agenda abstract. RECOMMENDATION(S) : Approve Application subject to the County Attorney' s review before April 12, 1988.
