•
ORANGE COUNTY PLA1\'N/NG DEPARTMENT.
IIILLSBOROUGH
NORTH CAROLINA
27278 10 9
mw m
March 27, 1987
George Tate
342 W . Rosemary St.
Chapel Hill , NC 27514
Dear Mr . Tate:
This office has received numerous complaints over the
past several weeks in regard to junked automobiles stored in
an area on the east side of Old Hwy. 86, and north of Eubanks
Road . Field inspections and Tax Map References (Chapel Hill
Township, Map 20, Lot - 12, Zoned R-B) indicate your ownership
' of that land and - that Ray Butler, of Butler' s Garage in
Carrboro currently is using the property for storage of
':: Junked vehicles, estimated to number in excess of 100 .
• This letter Is to inform you that such activity is in
violation of Orange County Zoning Ordinance Article 6,
Section 16 .7. (Storage of Junked or Wrecked Motor Vehicles) .
Please be advised that movement of any more junked or wrecked
automobiles onto this property will constitute added viola-
tion and could result in legal action against you through the
County Attorney ' s office. • Zoning Ordinance Article 11 ,
Section 11 .8 ( Non-conforming Uses of Land ) and Article 22
which defines junked or - wrecked motor vehicles, amended
3/5/86, allows you two years from date of amendment to come
into compliance. This means all wrecked and junked vehicles
now in place on above-cited property must be removed by
3/5/88. This office suggests that immediate measures begin
for removal of vehicles in order to have all property cleared
on or before 3/5/88. Failure to do so will place you in
violation of Orange County Zoning Ordinances and prosecution
shall be provided under General Statute 14.4.
On--site survey of the above-cited violations addition-
- ally revealed the potential health hazards to adjoining
residents posed by infestation of rats and other vermin .
Accordingly, this office will coordinate our findings with
the Orange County Sanitation Department toward any action
their office may deem necessary.
•
