049
Master Plan for School Facilities Pais, 18
GENERAL NEEDS
In all otthe district's schools, there are six common needs which have
been grouped separately for this report: (1) Attention should be given to
replacing inefficient HVAC systems or instituting other energy
conservation measures; (2) the district will, in all likelihood, need to
remove all asbestos containing materials over the next five years from all
buildings; (3) additional efforts need to be made to make our school
facilities accessible to the handicapped; (4) most kitchens need some
upgrading of space and equipment; (5) the district should continue
expending approximately $150,000 per year on major roof replacements;
and (6) much of the carpeting in the district is at the end of its useful life
and is in need of replacement. The costs, which at this time are very
general estimates, for each of these projects is itemized below:
Energy Conservation Measures/Upgrade HVAC Systems $ 750,000.
Asbestos Removal 300,000.
Accessibility for the Handicapped 250,000.
Upgrade Kitchen Facilities and Equipment 150,000.
Major Roof Replacements ($150,000 per year) 750,000.
Major Carpet Replacements 750,000.
TOTAL $2,950,000.
It should be noted that no funds have been earmarked for renovation or
expansion of the Lincoln Center facility, even though the BEP does provide
for increased staffing. Once needs become-clearer, it may be necessary to
request additional funds for this purpose.
