BACKGROUND: The School Capital Reserve Long Range Plan contains $774,180 in the current fiscal year for two airconditioning projects (Phillips and Frank Porter Graham) . The bids for these two projects were opened on February 12, 1988 and the low bid totalled $1,313,875. This leaves a shortfall of $539, 695. School administrative staff have identified $90,998 in items that can be deducted from the projects leaving an unfunded amount of $448, 697. Staff has also expressed the need to include a 3% contingency for these projects. Based on the adjusted project amount ($1,313,875 less $90,998) this contin- gency will be $36, 686. The total amount required to fund these projects is $485, 383 . In order to fund these projects, the school system has requested that funds in the Long Range Plan for fiscal year 1988-89 be shifted from the previously approved projects to the airconditioning projects. A similar action was approved by the Board on February 16, 1988. The attached schedule reflects the current status of the Long Range Plan as it relates the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Schools appropriations. The schedule also includes the results that would be created by this request.
