C. <br /> Association of County Commissioner staff person assigned to <br /> this issue. Ms. Roesler has indicated the following: <br /> 1) The N. C. Social Services Commission has delayed <br /> action on the proposed rules until May 1. <br /> 2) A Study Committee with representatives from County <br /> Commissioner, Sheriff and County Manager Associa- <br /> tion will be appointed to study the issue and <br /> report back to the Social Services Commission at <br /> its May 18 meeting. <br /> Ms. Roesler stated that the Association is vigorously <br /> opposing these new standards. It is anticipated that there <br /> will be further postponement beyond May 18. <br /> N. C. Hwy. 57/Hwy. 157 Intersection and Orange <br /> 70E Traffic Problems/control 9 High Road/Hwy., <br /> At the March 1, 1988 regular meeting it was requested <br /> that information be acquired from the De _ <br /> tation. The Department of Transportationrehas tcomp a edpthe <br /> - - necessary surveys for installing traffic islands at the <br /> intersection of Hwy.. 57 and 157. Mr. Dwight Kelley, DOT, <br /> -_ _ .received this information on Monday, March 7, 19$8. Mr. <br /> : _- Zelley wi11 present the drawings and information to the Board - <br /> at the April 4, 1988 regular meeting. - - --- -= <br /> In conversation with Mr. Mike -Mills, DOT, on Tuesday, <br /> March 8 he stated that traffic counts will be conducted <br /> • _ during the high use times at the intersection of Orange High <br /> Road and Hwy. 70E. Traffic count is one of the eight factors <br /> considered in evaluation of traffic signal need. <br /> JML/srs <br />
