Passmore, Ext . 280 Proposal TELEPHONE NUMBER: Correspondence Hillsborough - 732-8181 Chapel Hill - 968-4501 Mebane - 227-2031 Durham - 688-7331 PURPOSE: To consider approval of a funding request and support letter to the Town of Chapel Hill-Recreation Department ( special motel tax fund) for a professionally produced community resources brochure aimed at retirees. This request is for $4, 810 for 10,000 brochures for distribution to area organizations such as realtors, churches, chambers of commerce, libraries, government and service agencies as well as individual inquirees to the .-- Department on Aging. The Town of Chapel Hill--Recreation Department solicited funding proposals from County departments. • • BACKGROUND: The Department on Aging does not have funds for a profession- ally designed and produced brochure which promotes the community as a retirement area and the Department on Aging as a central information source for retirees. The Town of Chapel Hill has established a special motel tax fund for information services. Yet, the Chapel Hill-Orange County population has grown significantly as a result of immigration of retirees from other parts of the country. Nationally, Money Magazine will be further promoting Chapel Hill-Orange County as a popular retirement area in a special April . issue. Again, this will lead to a rise in inquiries. No county funds are requested for this project . The Department on Aging Information and Referral. Specialist would oversee the production and distribution of the brochure. - RECOMMENDATION(S) : Approve funding request for Retirees Community Resources brochure.
