The net
result of the meeting was concern that, in entering into the
MOU proposal , the County could be contracting away its
legislative authority.
Since greater coordination of planning efforts between NCDPR
and the County was the original intent of the MOU, it was
the general consensus of those at the meeting that a letter
of support from the County Commissioners relative to current
and proposed planning and zoning policies concerning Eno
River State Park would suffice. Bell was instructed to
draft such a letter for consideration by the Board of
Commissioners.
Subsequent to the January 12 meeting, the County Attorney
provided additional information concerning previous action
by Orange County in the form of a policy statement on the
Eno River. The 1976 policy statement and supporting
documentation is provided for the Board ' s information.
At a special meeting on February 9, 1988, the Planning Board
recommended that the Board of Commissioners endorse the
letter of support and forward same to the N. C. Division of
Parks and Recreation .
This item has been continued from the February 16, 1988 regular
Commissioners Meeting.
RECOMMENDATION(S) : The Administration recommends that the Board of Commissioners endorse
the letter of support and authorize the Chair to sign the letter in
its behalf.
