062
ORANGE COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
Action A is
Item No.(
ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT
Meeting Date: FEBRUARY 16, 1988
SUBJECT: INTERGOVERNMENTAL COMMITTEE
DEPARTMENT: BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS PUBLIC HEARING: Yes X No
ATTACHMENT(S) : INFORMATION CONTACT:
SHIRL MARSHALL, X505
TELEPHONE NUMBER:
NONE Hillsborough - 732-8181
Chapel Hill - 968-4501
Mebane - 227-2031
Durham - 688-7331
PURPOSE: To discuss an Orange County intergovernmental process to
replace the "gang-of-eight" model.
BACKGROUND: The Carrboro elected officials at their recent retreat dis-
cussed a workable model. From their decisions, Mayor
Kinnaird, Mayor Howes and the County Chair recommend that we
constitute a "committee-of-the-whole" of all elected officials
in Orange County to be known as a General Assembly.
The General Assembly would meet no more than quarterly but at
least semi-annually.
Permanent sub-committees of elected officials would be formed
around specific broad subjects with representatives being
chosen by expertise and interest.
It is suggested that the first two subcommittees to be formed
would be on (1) water, and (2) impact fees.
RECOMMENDATION(S) :
Approve.
