Horner, Director of Revenue <br /> (UNDER SEPARATE COVER) TELEPHONE NUMBER: <br /> Hillsborough - 732-8181 <br /> Chapel Hill -- 968-4501 <br /> Mebane - 227-2031 <br /> Durham - 688-7331 ext 432 <br /> PURPOSE: <br /> To relieve the Tax Collector's levy of certain 1983 and prior <br /> accounts which appear on the insolvent list and are deemed <br /> uncollectible. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> General Statute 105-373(g) <br /> Relief from Collecting Insolvents : The Governing Body of any <br /> taxing unit may, in its descretion, relieve the Tax Collector <br /> of the charge of taxes owed by persons on the insolvent list <br /> that are five or more years past due when it appears to the <br /> governing body that such taxes are uncollectible. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S) : <br /> Relieve the Tax Collector's levy of certain accounts whi2h appear on <br /> insolvent list and are deemed uncollectible. <br />
