049
CPROGRAM SUMMARY
ABSTRACT: (Please limit io 100 words.)
The information and Referral Guide was published in an effort to inform citizens
of the public and nonprofit agencies which provide human-needs services. The
Guide is in a loose-leaf notebook, with each agency listed on a separate page,
so additions and/or corrections can -easily be made. 'First distributed in April ,
1987, the Guide has already had three revisions. A topical index of key words
was developed to categorize the agencies, and this index is growing with each
revision to reflect the needs of the users. Also included is a map showing the
location of county departments and agencies.
PROBLEM/CONCERN:
Developing a flexible loose-leaf format for presenting the information was a major
concern since bound material is virtually out-of-date immediately upon publication.
A continuing concern is that of reaching those citizens who are eligible and need the
services which are available and listed in the guide.
SOLUTION:
Adopting a standard one-page format allows citizens to acquire sufficient information
to guide them to the proper person of a parti.eolar agency which provides the required
service. Since the integrity of county governelent endorses each agency listed, new
nonprofit agencies must be carefully scrutinized before being included in the Guide.
Distribution of the guide is not only countywide but statewide.
10
