•
096
i PROGRAM SUMMARY
L
cows:
Costs for the WHM celebration were minimal . The luncheon at one
school was donated, as were the refreshments at the second. The
permanent gifts were limited to $15 or under, so a maximum spent
would have been $75. 00. No money was spent on publicity, since it
was all public service. The films used in the special program
during the monthly meeting were available free of charge. Since the
schools handled their own in-house publicity, no duplicating or
printing charges for flyers were incurred. Some Commission members
may have made long distance phone calls to the other end of the
county, for which they may claim reimbursement, but none did. The
primary cost to the County was in staff time in meetings with the
WHM Committee - approximately twelve hours of actual meetings,
three of phone calls confirming or following up those meetings. As
noted above, the Commission is funded 100 percent by the County
(and is considered a department. )
RESULTS:
The Commission expects more intangible than tangible results from a
program such as Women' s History Month. After all, who can measure
the influence such a program has on a young mind? What we could
count was that about 100 students attended the panels, and the
feedback was so positive, we plan to repeat the activity in 1988,
including expanding the program to the middle and elementary
schools. There, local storytellers will dress up or act out stories
about historical women.
•
4
ssr
