C. 27278 <br /> Dear Ms. Marshall: <br /> Z am writing to you about changes which are being proposed <br /> in the regulation of aerial spraying of pesticides and am <br /> asking that your Board consider endorsing these proposals. <br /> Chatham County has been involved in an effort to tighten <br /> these regulations because of an incident in 1982 in a rural <br /> area of Chatham County. Since that time, there has been <br /> widespread concern over the lack of any requirement to <br /> notify residents of the area to be sprayed and an absence of <br /> a requirement for a protective buffer area surrounding the <br /> area to be sprayed. The Board of Commissioners here has <br /> petitioned the State Pesticide Board to modify the <br /> regulations to remedy these defects. <br /> A series of public hearings has been scheduled by the State <br /> on rules changes that have been initiated at Chatham County 's <br /> behest. --Enclosed are copies of the proposed changes in the <br /> regulations and the notice of the hearings as well as the <br /> original resolution adopted by our Board. <br /> The Board here has asked me to bring this issue to your <br /> attention and to ask that you consider filing comments in <br /> support of the regulations. <br /> Sincerely yours, <br /> Henry I .
