41
•
SUMMARY
This has been an overview of the recommended Thoroughfare Plan. It must be noted
that the Thoroughfare Plan is only one element of the total transportation system
and transportation planning effort of the area. It is the primary planning document
for the road element of the total transportation system. Other elements such as
ridesharing, transit, bicycling, and pedestrian movement are also part of the
system and there are on-going efforts in all of these. It should also be noted that
the Thoroughfare Plan is itself an interrelated system of roads and any change (or
deletion) of one facility has a ripple effect throughout the system as the trips
carried by that facility are redistributed. It is therefore necessary to analyze
any changes to evaluate the impacts and adjust the plan accordingly.
With this background the Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Technical Coordinating
Committee submits the Thoroughfare Plan for consideration and ultimate adoption.
There will be follow-up meetings with the various elected policy boards as shown
in attachment A. There will be a series of public hearings held in the various
quadrants for public input into the plan. The times, dates, and locations are shown
in attachment B.
5.$
