Eastern Avenue:
This continuation of the alignment of Eno Drive south of I-85 North has been
realigned to intersect US 70 around the Durham/Wake County line. A road is
proposed to directly connect to the alignment of a road shown on the
Greater Raleigh Urban Area thoroughfare plan that leads to the RDU Airport.
Inner Arterial Loop:
The Inner Arterial Loop from Riddle Road to Holder Road was shifted
northward. This was necessary because of recent development. The new
alignment follows existing Riddle Road to Ellis Road, then crosses the
Durham Freeway to Glover Road and northward to Holder Road. North of NC 98,
the Loop was moved westward to follow existing Princess Anne Drive.
In _the vicinity of I-85, the Loop will cross Alston Avenue Extension and tie
into North Roxboro Road at Old Oxford Road.
Mount Moriah Road Corridor:
The Mount Moriah Road corridor including an interchange with US 15/501, is
_ an addition to the existing plan. Although this is presently a low volume
intersection, it will be required to handle all of the development which
could occur between 1-40 and New Hope Creek. In the last couple of years
several large scale developments have been proposed between I-40 and New
Hope Creek. The City of Durham has been reluctant to rezone property in that
area until the Mount Moriah design was completed. US 15-501 is expected to
carry over 90,000 cars daily in the year 2010. Overlaying these projections
with the total build-out of the land adjacent to US 15/501 and 1-40, the
need for a new collector road with an interchange at Chapel. Hill Boulevard
became obvious.
Obie Drive:
Obie Drive has been removed from the plan because of the development of
Woodcroft Parkway. Woodcraft Parkway is so close to the alignment of Obie
Drive, it was felt that another east/west minor thoroughfare was not needed.
. Woodcraft Parkway is being extended by developers eastward to Barbee Road
and is proposed to tie into Carpenter Fletcher Road to connect with NC 55
eventuality.
South Roxboro Street
Hope Valley Farms development is building a portion of South Roxboro Street
from the Southern Parkway to Hope Valley Road. The alignment was shifted
so as to minimize the impact on the wetlands along Third Fork Creek, yet
. provide an adequate arterial to the south.
5.3
