F
Briggs Avenue Extension:
Briggs Avenue Extension southward to Research Triangle Park has been
terminated north of the Park. A suitable, location could not be found because
of recent development and the realignment of the Southern Parkway. The
portion from Lawson Street to a point just north of Riddle Road is currently
being built by a developer.
Camden Avenue:
Camden Avenue from Avondale Drive to Midland Terrace has been deleted as a
minor thoroughfare. Grade problems with the Alston Avenue Extension
construction will require that Camden Avenue be truncated. Thus, it will not
be continuous a cross the Alston Avenue Extension, therefore it will not be
a minor thoroughfare.
East Carver Street Extension:
A. segment of Carver Street between Roxboro Road and Duke Lane is being
built by a developer on a slightly different alignment than that shown in
the 1980 plan . An extension to Old Oxford Road is proposed on different
alignment than the current Plan which utilizes Dearborn Road.
Nest Carver Street:
The realignment of west Carver Street shown in the 1980 Plan has been
deleted and the current alignment to Rose of Sharon Road is recommended.
Chapel. Hill Blvd.:
Chapel Hill Boulevard (US 15-501) is the primary link between Chapel
Hill/Carrboro and Durham. The opening of I-40 is expected to bring
additional development that will worsen the congestion on an already over
capacity road. It is therefore recommended that US 15-501 be upgraded to a
freeway between the 15-501 business/bypass interchange in Durham and the
15-501 business/bypass interchange in Chapel Hill.
Eno Drive:
Eno Drive has undergone some revisions since the 1980 plan. The northern
alignment in the vicinity of Rose of Sharon Road was relocated to the north
for several reasons. First, the old alignment ran along a ravine. Construc-
tion would have been very expensive and caused environmental problems.
Second, the alignment ran through the center of Croasdaile Farms develop-
ment. A shift allowed the road to be accommodated with less impact on the
development. From this point the road travels west to where it will cross
I-85. If the eastern alignment of the Northern Durham Freeway is chosen,
the interchange with I-85 will need to be deleted because of interchange
spacing problems -along I-85 with the proposed Northern Durham Freeway.
There has also been a shift in the alignment west of Sparger Road to reduce
impacts on the Eno river and conflicts with the Eno River State Park.
5.2
