Laurel Hill Parkway Realignment - North of NC 54 removal of Pope Road <br /> Extension <br /> Northern Chatham Loop - shifted from Lystra Road to Jack Bennett Road <br /> Farrington Road - reduce to minor thoroughfare near I-40 and NC 54 <br /> Whitfield Road <br /> Eubanks Road <br /> Based on the analysis of the deficiencies of the adopted thoroughfare plans and <br /> the existing road network, it was determined that a system of new and improved <br /> roads would be necessary to accommodate traffic demands outside of the existing <br /> plans. <br /> Alternative 3: Existing Adopted Thoroughfare Plans Plus Proposed New and Improved <br /> Facilities <br /> Alternative plans for roads in the areas outside of the existing adopted thorough- <br /> fare plans were developed by the transportation planning staffs of the municipali- <br /> ties and counties in the Urban Area and the staff of the Statewide Planning Group <br /> of North Carolina Department of Transportation. Improvements to existing roads, <br /> connecting links between existing roads creating more efficient routes, and new <br /> routes providing more direct access between origins and destinations were <br /> formulated for possible inclusion in the Recommended Plan. The projected 2000 and <br /> 2010 traffic was then loaded on the alternative road systems to pinpoint deficien- <br /> cies. <br /> After analyzing each proposals' strengths and weaknesses with regard to positive . <br /> and negative impacts, the recommended set of proposed improvements was assembled <br /> for systematic testing. These recommended improvements are described in Chapter <br /> 5. Comparison of system-wide performance characteristics for these alternatives <br /> are given in Table 4.1. <br /> 4.3 <br />
